Wine bar launch a hit at Two Sisters Garage in Bulli

I had the pleasure of chatting to my local café owners, dynamic duo Tammy Johnston and Kim Hinds, this week who run the fabulous Two Sisters Garage in Bulli.
Heralding in the first-year anniversary of this beautiful hideaway, this month Tammy and Kim have launched the Two Sisters Garage Wine Bar, attached to the café, just on the corner of Princes Hwy and Park Rd. It’s open evenings Thursday through to Sunday.
Congrats Tammy and Kim! To celebrate, co-owner Kim help Slice Of Pie share a little of their journey this far.
Some of Kim’s insight’s may inspire your own plans for 2019.
Why Two Sisters Garage brings in customers
This team have created an original space, quite literally out of a garage, with the intimate character of a shabby chic, modern home. It’s complete with polished concrete floors and exposed brick, meshed with soft grey and purple foliage of lavender, which skirts the cosy courtyard.
“The coffee also helps”, says Kim, with a smile, of her tasty roast from The Little Marionette, which they source from Sydney. The bread is also scrumptious, locally made by The Bread Circle.
What inspires Kim
So often I find that café owners are most inspired by their customers. They keep them working hard and make the days worthwhile. Kim is no exception.
"I love our customers. I know our regulars' names. I know their kids' names. We share a little of our lives. It's a lovely neighbourhood."
The beginning of Two Sisters Garage
“Originally from the Shire, we moved down to Bulli 11 years ago, where my sister and I worked as caterers for a long time,” said Kim.
“When we heard of this space becoming available, we knew it was perfect. We could see the potential and knew it could work.”
Hopes for the launch of The Two Sisters Garage Wine Bar
“We’ve had such a great year, and regulars all told us that a boutique wine bar and craft beer with an intimate atmosphere was something missing from our local area,” said Kim.
“So far we’ve had a really positive start, with our regulars leading the way to spread the word. Our signature Cocktail, The Little Marionette Espresso, with vodka and Kahlua, is a favourite.
Tips for social media
Tammy chimes in to Kim and my chat and mentions her positive take on social media for the business.
“Yes, it works. When I’ve posted things our local followers all love to share their thoughts on our posts,” said Tammy.
Just scrolling through these posts, the biggest hits are happy snaps of people enjoying their time at the café. The beauty of the courtyard, with its lovely greenery also inspires Likes galore, given much of the atmosphere and experience of Two Sisters Garage is the cosy outdoor area. It makes sense.
A big thanks for Kim and Tammy for their time! Wishing you the best of luck. Will see you next Friday night!
